Oslo, Norway – The Waldner Cup is thrilled to announce the first player names for the highly anticipated 2024 tournament. Leading the teams as captains are two of the sport's greatest legends: Jan-Ove Waldner for Team World and Ma Long for Team Asia.

The Waldner Cup 2024 is excited to announce its first players for this year’s match-up. Representing Team World are Sweden’s Truls Möregardh and Germany’s Dimitri Ovtcharov, two players known for their intense competitive spirit and dynamic play styles. Möregardh, a silver medalist in Paris 2024 Olympics, and the rising star from Sweden, is celebrated for his fearless play, while Ovtcharov, a seasoned powerhouse from Germany, brings experience and precision to the team. Ovtcharov’s consistency and skill have kept him in the top ranks for years and have silver and bronze from Olympic games and World Championships (team and single) to show for.

For Team Asia, legendary playing captain Ma Long will lead alongside China’s Chen Meng, one of the most dominant and technically skilled players in the game. Ma Long stands as the most decorated table tennis player in Olympic history, with an unprecedented record of five gold medals across singles and team events. Chen Meng, two time and current Olympic Champion (singles) is celebrated for her consistency, technical skill, and calm under pressure, especially in major tournaments. Together, Ma Long and Chen Meng represent the pinnacle of table tennis.Both Ma Long and Chen Meng have set new standards in table tennis and are expected to bring unmatched energy and precision to Oslo this December.
