The Waldner Cup 2024 – A Historic Table Tennis Event in Oslo Norway

Oslo, Norway – September 6, 2024 – The Waldner Cup 2024 is set to take place from December 13 to 15 in Oslo, Norway, promising to be one of the most prestigious and exciting table tennis events in recent history. Hosted in the City of Oslo, this event will bring together the world's best table tennis players, including legends and GOATs Jan-Ove Waldner and Ma Long, who will serve as captains for Team World and Team Asia, respectively.

Event Highlights:

  • Press Conference at the Munch Museum (12 December): The event will kick off with a press conference at the Munch Museum, where the participating athletes, including captains Waldner and Ma Long, will address the media and fans. This will provide a unique opportunity to hear from the legends of the sport and get an inside look at the upcoming matches.
  • Reception at Oslo City Hall (12 December): A grand reception will be held at the historic Oslo City Hall, welcoming the players, dignitaries, and invited guests. This evening will celebrate the spirit of international sportsmanship and honor the legacy of table tennis, with a special tribute to the participating legends.
  • Celebrity Game (13 December): The Waldner Cup will feature a celebrity game, where celebrities and past table tennis legends from the 80s, 90s, and 00s will compete in a thrilling exhibition match. This event will be a nostalgic journey for fans and an unforgettable showcase of skill and sportsmanship.
  • Live Matches (14-15 December): The main event will feature live table tennis matches between Team World and Team Asia. The world’s top players will compete in a series of intense matches, with the winning team being crowned the champions of the Waldner Cup. Fans from all over the world are expected to attend each day, making it an electrifying atmosphere.
  • Team World and Team Asia athletes: To be announced weekly moving forward
  • Waldner on promotion tour: Jan-Ove Waldner will travel to Oslo, Norway week 39, Beijing and Shanghai, China week41, and Germany week 46.

Public Participation – A Unique Opportunity:

As a special tribute to the global table tennis community, the Waldner Cup invites fans to participate in a public qualification event. Starting on September 16, fans can qualify to join Team World or Team Asia as athletes in the Waldner Cup. This unique initiative allows three players from each team to be selected from the public, giving them a chance to play alongside legends on the world stage.
